The Lillian Goldman Law Library, Digital Collections unit, operates a small imaging studio that was established in early 2020. Located on the L2 level of the Sterling Law Building, our studio is equipped with the Digital Transitions DT Atom and PhaseOne iXG camera system.

The studio has the capacity to support preservation imaging of primarily paper-based material from the library’s rare book and archival legal collections. We serve the ongoing needs of the library’s programmatic development of digital collections and digital preservation efforts, in addition to meeting on-demand imaging requests for exhibits, events, and high-resolution reproductions for the YLS community.

Since its inception, the studio has contributed to the digitization of some of the library’s most historically significant and unique holdings, including pre-19th century Italian Statutes manuscripts, handwritten student notebooks from the historic Litchfield Law School, in addition to other legal manuscripts, ephemera, prints, and photographs.
